Is zaleplon (sonata) 20 mg better than zolpidem?

3 Answers - Posted in: sonata, sleep disorders, zaleplon, zolpidem, sleep - Answer: Hi okey I started taking ambien last year and i loved it!.

Yes it is frustrating. My overall assessment of many of these medications is the older ones are often better. That was rarely ever true of the tricyclics or MAOI's or the lst and 2nd generation antipsychotics. Expand. I had the benefit of working with medications for many years so I already knew a lot of the pros and cons of each one. And the benzos that came out in the 60's and 70's are still very good drugs when used properly. So many of the newer psych medications are so complex they end up damaging the pancreas and liver.

I picked up her question when she didn't get a response from you but said to her that you still might.

Zolpidem (Ambien) Versus Zaleplon (Sonata) for Insomnia Online

Drug category: Anti-Depressant| Tags:

Higher doses of Sonata (10mg or 20mg) was shown to be more effective than a lower dose (5mg) without a significant increase in side effects. In one of the above studies, Ambien caused an increase in hangover effect and rebound insomnia once the drug was discontinued compared to Sonata. Bottom Line Both Sonata and Ambien appear to have a more or less similar effectiveness in reducing the lenght of time until sleep, however some evidence has shown that Ambien may be somewhat more effective in increasing total sleep time and decreasing the number of nighttime awakenings.

Sonata 20mg also significantly increased the duration of sleep compared to placebo in all but week three of treatment.
