Ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions. Know which other medications and foods you need to avoid. When you start a new prescription or over-the-counter medication, make sure you understand how to take it correctly.

Others can be more serious. Most are mild, such as a stomach aches or drowsiness, and go away after you stop taking the drug. Side effects are unwanted effects caused by the drugs.

Skin reactions, such as hives and rashes, are the most common type. Drug allergies are another type of reaction. They can be mild or life-threatening.

It covers drugs from the time they are entered into clinical trials through their entry into to learn about their effectiveness, usual dosage, and drug interactions.

It includes name, form, active and inactive ingredients, amount of active ingredient, manufacturer/distributor information, label claims, warnings, percentage of daily value, and additional label information. The database can be searched by product names, text terms found on product labels, specific dietary ingredients, and manufacturers. The database links you to the information from the labels of over 4,000 dietary supplement products in the marketplace, including vitamins, minerals, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids, and other specialty supplements.

NIH Funding Opportunities and Notices in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts: Center of Excellence for Natural Product Drug Interaction.

There is substantial capacity either through internal governmental facilities or through existing contracts to carry out a wide range of preclinical and clinical studies of the type and scope expected through this program. The NIH will then determine the most cost effective approach for executing the necessary work. Based on the existing literature, the research questions will be different for each of the selected natural products. Importantly, it is assumed that the necessary clinical studies will maximize safety through use of probe drugs as a proxy for any narrow therapeutic index drugs.
