Its quality abounds the moment you take it out of your bag, and the speedy internals and impressive weight are enough for us to recommend it wholeheartedly.

The brand has been plugging away in the mobile space for a few years, but now the combination of the Sony Xperia Z and Tablet Z show that the Japanese brand is bringing us devices that the public can finally really lust after.

If you want the full, polished Apple tablet experience in a smaller package, the iPad Mini is worth the premium price. Otherwise, good.

When I typed, the entire edge-to-edge surface became sensitive to my entire hand. I worried I'd accidentally start an app with my big palms, or turn a page by accident. Gripping, swiping, and typing: Thumbs and fingers So, what about that smaller bezel? Holding it suddenly becomes a delicate-seeming proposition. Apple has worked finger-rejection technology into the hardware and software of the iPad Mini that's context-dependent. That didn't happen to me. CNET. All I know is that when reading books on the Kindle app or iBooks, I found holding on the side wasn't a problem.

For pure text, the Mini may not be the best.

The Bottom Line The new iPad Mini somehow shrinks down the iPad Air into an even more compact package, sacrificing nearly nothing. It's more expensive than before, but it's also the perfect smaller tablet.

The Mini was a perfect 10 for its form: why change it? The new Mini, wisely, barely alters the equation.

In a lot of ways, the Retina Mini is much like the iPhone 5S, except it lacks a fingerprint-sensing Touch ID home button; this year's iPad home button still has a square on it, and won't do anything with your fingerprint except collect a slight smudge.

Samsung has four new high-end tablets set to launch in the next few months. The smallest of the bunch, the Galaxy TabPRO 8.4, looks like.

The iPad mini will be tough to beat, as it lasted nearly 11 hours in our standard video streaming test. We don't yet know anything about the Tab Pro's actual battery life, but we do know that it packs 4,800 mAh worth of juice.

The Tab Pro's IR blaster couples with some baked-in software to let you do just that. If you fancy changing channels on your TV with your tablet, then Samsung has you covered.

Samsung needs to give me a better reason to switch over to them before they can make me cough up that price again.
