Mechanism of Action. Albuterol sulfate is a beta2-adrenergic agonist. The pharmacologic effects of albuterol sulfate are attributable to activation of.

Here is a collection of user reviews for the medication Proair HFA sorted by most helpful.

Intravenous studies in rats with albuterol sulfate have demonstrated that albuterol crosses the blood-brain barrier and reaches brain concentrations amounting to approximay 5% of the plasma concentrations. In structures outside the blood-brain barrier (pineal and pituitary glands), albuterol concentrations were found to be 100 times those in the whole brain.

In an inhalation reproduction study in Sprague-Dawley rats, the albuterol sulfate/HFA134a did not exhibit any teratogenic effects at 10.5 mg/kg (approximay 65 times the maximum recommended daily inhalation dose for adults on a mg/m² basis).

However, without charcoal pretreatment, after either oral or inhalation administration the differences were 8- to 24-fold, suggesting that the (R)albuterol is preferentially metabolized in the gastrointestinal tract, presumably by SULTIA3.

Mechanism of Action. In vitro studies and in vivopharmacologic studies have demons trated that albuterol has a preferential effect on beta2-adrenergic receptors.

One controlled clinical study in adult patients with asthma (N = 24) demonstrated that 2 inhalations of VENTOLIN HFA (albuterol sulfate inhalation aerosol) taken approximay 30 minutes prior to exercise significantly prevented exercise-induced bronchospasm (as measured by maximum percentage fall in FEV 1 following exercise) compared to an HFA-134a placebo inhaler. In addition, VENTOLIN HFA (albuterol sulfate inhalation aerosol) was shown to be clinically comparable to a CFC 11/12-propelled albuterol inhaler for this indication.

In structures outside the blood-brain barrier (pineal and pituitary glands), albuterol concentrations were found to be 100 times those in the whole brain.

Albuterol: Brands, Medical Use, Clinical Data. Accuneb; Aerolin; Albuterol; Albuterol HFA; Albuterol Sulfate; Albuterol Sulfate Hfa; Mechanism of Action.

Drug Interactions Other short-acting sympathomimetic aerosol bronchodilators should not be used concomitantly with albuterol. If additional adrenergic drugs are to be administered by any route, they should be used with caution to avoid deleterious cardiovascular effects.

Digoxin: Mean decreases of 16% to 22% in serum digoxin levels were demonstrated after single-dose intravenous and oral administration of albuterol, respectively, to normal volunteers who had received digoxin for 10 days. The clinical significance of these findings for patients with obstructive airway disease who are receiving albuterol and digoxin on a chronic basis is unclear.

Albuterol Sulfate. Mechanism of Action. In vitro and in vivo pharmacologic studies have demonstrated that albuterol has a preferential effect on beta2-adrenergic.

Ventilation/perfusion studies have shown no clinically significant effects on pulmonary gas exchange or arterial oxygen tension. At recommended doses, ipratropium bromide does not produce clinically significant changes in pulse rate or blood pressure.

In the two controlled 12 week studies, albuterol sulfate; ipratropium bromide inhalation aerosol did not produce any change in the secondary efficacy parameters including symptom scores, physician global assessments, and morning PEFR, all of which were monitored throughout the study period.

In vitro and in vivo pharmacologic studies have demonstrated that albuterol has a preferential effect on beta 2 -adrenergic receptors compared with isoproterenol.

Albuterol Inhalation Solution - FDA prescribing information, side

The action of albuterol sulfate inhalation solution may last up to 6 hours or longer. Albuterol sulfate inhalation solution should not be used more frequently than.

Sulfuric Acid may be added to adjust pH (3.0-5.0). Each mL Contains: ACTIVE: Albuterol sulfate equivalent to 5 mg of albuterol in an aqueous solution.

*Potency expressed as albuterol Rx only.

Nevertheless, it would be prudent to carefully evaluate the serum digoxin levels in patients who are currently receiving digoxin and albuterol. The clinical significance of these findings for patients with obstructive airway disease who are receiving albuterol and digoxin on a chronic basis is unclear. Digoxin: Mean decreases of 16% to 22% in serum digoxin levels were demonstrated after single-dose intravenous and oral administration of albuterol, respectively, to normal volunteers who had received digoxin for 10 days.

Although such effects are uncommon after administration of albuterol sulfate inhalation solution at recommended doses, if they occur, the drug may need to be discontinued.
